The program is a solution that responds to the growing need to provide information, essential care and life-changing services to individuals in need. The Helping Up Mission has launched a new Street Outreach Program to try to lend a hand to Baltimore's homeless men and women. We provide homework assistance, academic support, and recreational activities. After-School Program: BOS has a computer lab for all grade level students to work on their school work. The infants receive comprehensive assessments, early intervention services, family support services, parent education, counseling and specialized childcare.Ĥ. Therapeutic Day Care: Shelter infants and toddlers attend therapeutic day care where they have access to medical and educational professionals. Pediatric Therapist: A pediatric therapist from Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center works with the children in therapy, helping them to process their experiences and feelings in a safe environment.ģ. Pediatric Nurse Practitioner: A pediatric nurse practitioner from Mercy Medical Center’s Children Health Outreach Program assesses children’s health needs, obtains inoculation and health records and schedules needed health care.Ģ. Eligibility:Īll residents must be employed to enter our supportive housing program.ġ. During their stay in supportive housing, residents resolve outstanding bills and reconcile poor credit issues while improving their job skills. Supportive housing is a two-year, intensive counseling and mentoring program that encourages growth to achieve goals of financial stability, mental health treatment and substance abuse recovery. There is also a group segment around financial planning, budgeting, managing spending habits, psychological triggers for spending, and how these things impact credit reports and the ability to secure housing. We offer anger and stress management segments. We teach the Circle of Security parenting program and mindfulness coping skills program which are both evidence-based models. Life Skills Classes: Life skills classes are held every Wednesday at BOS. Both continue their services after families leave the shelter.ĥ. One of the providers comes to the shelter and meets with clients and the other provides transportation services to their offices, however during COVID-19 all are tele-med services. Sobriety, Health, and Mental Health: The case manager often connects residents to two community mental health providers: Thrive and Transformation Health. Case Management: Case management works with each woman to develop an individualized plan to address each barrier, connecting them to health and mental health services plus substance abuse treatment when needed.Ĥ. The Sanitation and Food Safety Certification Program is incorporated into the curriculum.ģ. Culinary Arts Training: An 8-week culinary curriculum focuses on teaching the basic skills and terms needed for employment in a commercial kitchen at the level of beginning prep cook. Jobs Emphasis: An onsite employment specialist works with the residents to assess their education and work history, help complete online applications and resumes, conduct mock interviews, and connect women to employers for jobs.Ģ.
